Variety Cryptic 5: Joinery

Joinery

By Elgel
We've found a sword stuck in this stone; we'll need a special event to pull it out. The hilt words (6d and 17a, unclued) tell us who should get the honour.
As it stands, the blade is rough; no wonder it's stuck! To polish the blade and start off the event, replace all grey cells with the same single letter (these are 2d 33d - some liberties have been taken with how many were needed here). New valid words will be formed by the change.

Note: some cells along the blade have multiple letters in. Press '/' to start entering multiple letters in a cell, then press enter to move on.

Variety Cryptic 4: Back to the Gym

Back to the Gym

I thought I'd celebrate being allowed back into the gyms and getting to do my main hobby again. Here's a variety for that purpose.
The thing is, there's always some risk at the gym. 14a 16a is one of the common ones, and eight of the down clues embody that danger. All other clues are normal.

Variety Cryptic 2: Heroes Among Us

Heroes Among Us

Aha, a well known hero’s logo; but hiding in the grid, there is another.

Going clockwise and starting at the fictional character, read off the letters in red squares to find the location of some ‘sidekicks’.
Follow the instructions these ‘sidekicks’ give you to reveal the second logo.

Variety Cryptic 1: Final Words

Final Words

By Elgel
This puzzle was first released in late December 2020.
The shaded row and column are not clued. After filling in the grid, you will find the column contains something we're doing around the globe, and the row will give you further instructions to follow after entering the last letter at the intersection.

Important note: You will have to enter multiple characters into some of the shaded column squares. Press '/' to start entering multiple letters into a square, and press enter to move on.
The shaded row contains only single letters, as do all unshaded cells.
