Advent 2022: #0

Advent Calendar

By Elgel
Welcome to this year's advent!
Things may not make sense at first; but each day, you'll get some more of the grid, and an individual puzzle to explain that day's clue (that day's clue might not go in those cells though!)

Variety Cryptic 18: P is for Pterodactyl

P is for Pterodactyl

By Elgel
Apologies for the delays between puzzles; I've been busy moving to a new city and a new job role, and haven't had much time for making grids. I do have multiple in the works though, so stay tuned.

The letter shapes on the left can all be fitted together into the main grid, without overlap.
The grid cells untouched by letter shapes give two descriptions of this puzzle, one for each way you resolve an ambiguity.
Do note the ordering of letters in the shape words; to fit the constraint of "finishing this year", they don't all go round as neatly as I'd like.

Interface instructions: use Shift-[letter] to move the coloured shapes around.
